Slay the Spire 2: Co-op Guide

4-player co-op is the biggest new feature in Slay the Spire 2. Here's everything confirmed about how it works — and how to play it well.

Major new feature: Slay the Spire 2 introduces 4-player co-op — the first multiplayer mode in the series' history. Play through the Spire with up to 3 friends, coordinating decks and relics for shared victory (or chaotic defeat).

How Co-op Works

In co-op mode, 1-4 players each control their own Slayer and work together to climb the Spire. Based on confirmed details from the announcement trailer and developer info:

Note: Co-op specifics (turn order, shared HP vs individual HP, exact multiplayer rules) will be confirmed when Early Access launches March 5, 2026. We'll update this guide fully at launch.

Why Co-op Changes Everything

In solo play, you're limited to one character's card pool. In co-op, your team can cover weaknesses and stack strengths:

Cover Weaknesses

If you're playing an aggressive character with poor blocking, a teammate can run defensive cards and Frost Orbs. You no longer need to do everything yourself.

Stack Debuffs

Vulnerability (takes 50% more damage) stacked by one player amplifies everyone's damage. Coordinate who applies debuffs and who dumps damage.

Focus Fire

Elites and bosses become much more manageable when 4 decks are targeting the same enemy. The damage numbers in co-op should be staggering.

Relic Synergy

Relics that trigger off events (entering rooms, using potions, etc.) can chain between players for multiplied value. Discovering broken team combos will be part of the fun.

Recommended Team Compositions

Based on STS1 character archetypes and confirmed STS2 mechanics, here are team compositions to try:

Co-op Tips for New Teams

1. Assign roles early

Decide who's the damage dealer, who blocks, who applies debuffs. Don't let everyone build the same way — you'll have gaps.

2. Communicate card picks

When offered cards, tell teammates what you're considering. A card that's mediocre for you might be exactly what they need.

3. Share potion strategies

Who saves potions for emergencies? Who uses them aggressively? Coordinate to avoid situations where everyone's out of healing at once.

4. Plan for the boss together

Boss fights will likely scale with player count. Discuss the strategy before entering — who handles block, who saves burst damage for critical turns.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many players can play co-op in STS2?

Up to 4 players. STS2 supports 1-4 players in co-op mode, with the game designed to work at all player counts.

Is co-op online or local multiplayer?

Based on the announcement, STS2 co-op is designed for online multiplayer. Local co-op details have not been confirmed for Early Access.

Does co-op require owning the game separately?

Likely yes — each player will need their own copy of the game. No family sharing specifics confirmed yet.

Does the Spire scale difficulty with more players?

Not confirmed yet. This is one of the most important questions for Early Access — we'll update immediately when MegaCrit clarifies the scaling system.

Can you play solo while others play co-op?

STS2 supports 1-4 players, so yes — solo runs remain available. Co-op is an addition, not a replacement.
